In a move which is all set to give a major relief to lakhs of flat owners across Uttar Pradesh, the State Government has allowed them to have their own individual power connection. The decision will be beneficial especially to those residents who are living in the National Capital Region (NCR) area, including Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida.
According to a state government official, the decision was made after repeated complaints from many tenants and flat owners wherein they said that the apartment management is taking more money from them which not as per the power rates. Officials said, “There were complaints that builders were charging power rates arbitrarily while selling the flats. So, the state government has decided to bring an end to this menace.”
They further said that under section 43 of the Electricity Act, no consumer either tenant or flat owner can be prevented from taking a power connection.
Giving more information about this announcement in details, Shrikant Sharma state power minister said, “Flat owners will now be able to get electricity connections directly from power companies. The apartment management has been told to change the single-point connection to multi-point connections by March 31 next year.”
After repeated complaints and letters from distressed flat owners, the power minister had met senior officials of the state power regulatory commission. After the meeting, a decision was made and it was conveyed to the chairman of the UP State Electricity Regulatory Commission, (UPSERC). The proposal got clearance from UPSERC and has been immediately sent to all the builders.
