Uttar Pradesh has secured the first position in the country with the construction of over seven lakh housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme till March 31.
Talking to the reporters, UP Rural Development Minister Mahendra Singh told that these housing units are meant for rural poor’s and is completed in a record span of time.
He said, “PMAY-G was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Agra on November 20, 2016. The construction targets of 2016-17 and 2017-18 were completed in one year (2017-18). The construction rate of UP stands at 85 per cent, while the national average is 34 per cent.”
He further said that earlier UP was flagging at the bottom of the national table, but with the efforts of the state government, UP has occupied the top slot.
In terms of rate of construction of housing units under PMAY (G) for rural poor, Uttar Pradesh is followed by Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Central Government dream project ‘Housing for all by 2022′ is divided into two parts to provide housing to both rural as well as urban poor’s. However, PMAY-G aims at providing a pucca house, with all the basic amenities, to the houseless householder and those households who are living in kutcha and dilapidated house. In order to provide a proper well-ventilated house, the minimum size of the house has also been increased to 25 sq.mt (from20sq.mt) with a hygienic cooking space.
