The Jewar Airport which on April 23 got In- Principle approval by the aviation ministry could also be connected by at least two different train systems to Delhi. The state government is planning to build a dedicated Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) to ensure a smooth connectivity between the two airports.
In order to fast track the work, the government is examining the feasibility of the Jewar RRTS corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to the proposed airport site. Three RRTS routes have already been approved from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut, Panipat, and Alwar.
Apart from this route, Noida metro authority is also planning to extend the Greater Noida metro to the Greenfield International Noida airport. Another direct link between IGI Airport and Jewar airport is also in planning for which train transportation is amongst the various possibilities.
Eastern Peripheral Expressway which will be inaugurated by PM on April 29 will also be connected to the Jewar airport. It has been decided to develop an Aerocity in this area, just like Delhi’s IGI airport.
Prabhat Kumar chairman, YEIDA told that we are working simultaneously on connectivity to Jewar airport and the timely completion of its first phase in the financial year 2022-23. We have asked the National Capital Region Transport Corporation to examine the feasibility of having a separate line from Sarai Kale Khan to Jewar airport. This rail will be faster than metro due to fewer stations and is thus well suited to reach the airport.
He further said, “We will issue the bids for constructing the airport by July. A concessionaire will be chosen by September and foundation stone-laying will take place in October. The actual construction on site will begin by the end March 2019. The first phase will be ready by 2022-23.”
Both the Centre and UP government are working in sync on the project for both connectivity and airport construction. It has been stated that Jewar Airport is billed to cater 80 million passengers once it will get operational by 2023.
