The Trichy Corporation in collaboration with Union Bank launched Point of Sale [POS]-enabled tax collection system in order to ease the property tax payment. This process will help the residents in the payment of property tax and there are total 11 POS-centers in the city.
An official said that the tax collection centres are set up at 36 points which include the zonal offices of Trichy Corporation and the private banks who went into an agreement with the urban local body [ULB]. Apart from the tax collection centers in 65 wards, the urban local bodies can also receive payments online as the property owners can visit https://tnurbanepay.tn.gov.in for making payments.
Till now the property owners here had a tough time making payments via cash at the tax collection centres which Government has now resolved by introducing a POS system with Union bank.
According to the officials, other centers will receive POS machines and also stated that no service charge will be charged for making minimum or maximum tax payments via the POS machines.
R Sathishkumar, assistant revenue officer, said that the Trichy Corporation will collect a similar payment amount via POS system which they used to get by the debit/credit card payments made by the property owners. The residents can pay property tax, water charges, vacant land tax, professional tax, and underground drainage (UGD) service charge via the POS machines.
Earlier, the Trichy Corporation in Tamil Nadu reviewed tax slabs for new assessments according to the zones. This step was taken after the Tamil Nadu state Government allowed all urban local bodies to revise property tax slabs.
