Vijay Rupani, the Gujarat Chief Minister recently announced that the first trial run of Ahmedabad metro rail will begin from January next year. In the first trial, the metro will run between Vastral Village and Apparel Park which is a 6.5-km stretch and is also known as the ‘priority reach’, in East Ahmedabad. This more than 6 Km-long stretch is a part of total 20.73-km-long East-West Corridor of the Metro rail project which is planned to offer smooth connectivity between Vastral area in east Ahmedabad with the western suburb of Thaltej.
CM further said that he has directed the officials to ensure that commuters won’t get troubled due to the ongoing work as he visited the underground section of the metro route to inspect the proposed integration of the bullet train, metro and Kalupur railway station.
The bullet train project is the pilot project of high-speed train in India which will connect with Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra and Ahmedabad which is Gujarat’s major city. In fact, a mock-up model of metro coach will received in Ahmedabad by the end of next month and this model will be displayed for public viewing.
MEGA i.e. Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad is responsible for the execution of Ahmedabad Metro Rail project and the agency owned by the Gujarat Government with 100% stake.
The company incurs costs of Rs. 10,773 crores for the first phase of metro project which will connect Eastern-Western and Northern-Southern suburbs in Ahmedabad. The Eastern-Western corridor is 20.73 kms long and the North-South corridor lengths 18.52kms while connecting with Motera and APMC market. The metro route will be extended till Gandhinagar in second phase.
