The Tamil Nadu Government has framed property tax collection guidelines for the officials in order to make tax collection an easy process. In fact, the Chennai Corporation also decided to take help of the technology and will shoot an SMS alert to make a self-declaration of your house/flat details for property tax purposes. This SMS alert is going to be the part of a revised tax system.
The State Government has also issued guidelines to the commissioners of all local bodies to prepare a list of properties and the timeframe within which the owners are required to fill the property tax amount. In a primary step, all the officials are required to accumulate records of all properties available with housing society, housing board, slum clearance board, ration cards maintained by civil supplies department and other registers maintained by municipalities and corporations to check for the omission of owners in the assessment process.
After which the officials are required to cross-check all records manually by going door-to-door after which the verified data has to be submitted to their senior official. This data will allow the officials to make 100% property tax collection from October 20.
According to an official, the field staff will be deployed at large and the authority is ensuring 100% filing of returns. The returns filed by the property owners is planned to keep it safe and thus nobody is required to get worried about tampering of the same. The property is required to be inspected by the officials in case the owner has not filed the property tax within the given deadline.
The official further said now very one is aware that the property tax system is revised and thus a systemic plan for the implementation of the same is designed.
