In a good move, to address the problems of illegal construction and encroachment on public land, parking spaces, roads and pavements in the capital city, a special task force has been constituted by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The force will also ensure smooth coordination among various government agencies along with timely and effective actions to implement the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2021 and the Unified Building Bylaws.
According to an official press release, vice chairman of DDA will be the chairman of this special task force along with officials from NDMC, the three Municipal Commissioners, officers of GNCTD and the Delhi Police. The plan has been formulated on May 23, 2018 with the names of the concerned officials.
Giving more information on this force, Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said, “We are very strict on any encroachments and illegal constructions or violations of law. We will take punitive action under disciplinary rules and won’t even hesitate suspending the concerned officer if found guilty of abetting or not taking any action against any illegal construction or encroachment. An FIR under Section 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act would also be initiated against the erring officer,”
He further added that there will be a website and mobile app through which anyone can upload complaints and evidence of illegal construction as well as encroachments. They can also file complaints with evidence against officers involved. This will help us track any illegal activities in the future.
Because of ongoing large scale illegal constructions in Delhi, this is the first time strict rules has been adhered to curb this problem. It will also help government in taking strict actions against any concerned official involved in illegal activities.
