The Puducherry Government finalized a draft titled ‘Affordable housing and habitat policy for the Union territory’ according to the directions of the Union housing and urban affairs ministry. TCPD i.e. [Town and Country Planning Department] uploaded the draft of Housing for All on its website https://tcpd.py.gov.in/announcements and is inviting comments and suggestions from the public on or before November 12.
The draft is formed with the aim to provide affordable housing to the people falling under economically weaker sections [EWS] and low-income groups [LIGs] and other sections of the society including scheduled castes/scheduled tribes, backward classes, minorities and senior citizens, physically challenged persons in the territory and to ensure that no individual is left shelter-less.
S Mahalingam, chief town planner said that the policy ensures easy access to housing units by all residents of Puducherry that too in their budget and hence we are working to fix the system that can deliver for a longer period of time.
The public suggestions can be mailed to the Puducherry Government by visiting firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Add suggestions or comments to the same with the subject stating, ‘Comments on affordable housing and habitat policy for the Union Territory of Puducherry’ or addressed to the chief town planner, town and country planning department, Jawahar Nagar, Boomianpet, Puducherry.
The National housing and habitat policy, 2007 is published by the Union ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and stated that ‘affordable housing to all’ as its mandate. The policy permits states to include the passing of specific acts to achieve the housing policy.
