In order to give a boost to the IT industry of Pune, the civic body has given nod to set up Information technology parks spread across 1 crore sq.ft. in the city soon. The Pune Municipal Corporation has recently cleared IT zones in Kharadi, Aundh, Baner, and Balewadi.
PMC officials shared that nearly 60 lakh sqft construction is expected in Kharadi and around 40 lakh sqft in Aundh, Baner and Balewadi. According to an Industry expert, these parks will create nearly 1 lakh jobs in future thereby booming the IT industry of the Pune city.
They further said, “The civic body was providing 2-floor space index (FSI) to the IT facilities earlier. Based on the new development control rules drafted in 2017, the PMC has started providing additional FSI. Now, PMC gives 3 FSI to the IT parks. It pushed up the demand from the developers to set up such facilities.”
“The changes in FSI rules have benefited the city and encouraged the developers of IT parks. We did not get any major proposal for the IT parks in the past four years,” added city engineer Prashant Waghmare.
In recent times, the IT industry of the city has flourished up to a large extent and hence these new IT parks will create a conducive atmosphere in the city for start-ups.
Welcoming the move, a member of the Hinjewadi Industrial Association said that if the IT zones will come up in different areas then it will help the industries find local talent. Also, employees find it tough to commute from one part of the city to the other due to large distance. Hence, the issues pertaining to transport and traffic can be sorted out with segregated locations.
The new IT zones will further help in providing better facilities as well as a competitive atmosphere to many small companies.
