The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation [PCMC] plans to construct 568 residential units for the people belonging to the economically weaker section at Akurdi under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana [PMAY]. Earlier, the PCMC proposed to build 60,000 affordable homes under the PPP [public-private-partnership] model. The officials at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation stated the construction of these housing units are likely to incur 54 crore rupees and the completion of the same is expected to take two-and-a-half years. The total floor space index (FSI) of 2.5 is sanctioned for the project.
MHADA – The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority is responsible for the construction of homes under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna [PMAY] in the state. The Maharashtra State Government targets to construct 19.4 lakh affordable houses by 2022. Wherein, the PCMC is currently able to build 10,000 residential units and thus the remaining 50,000 affordable homes will be constructed in collaboration with the private landowners, an official said.
All housing units will size 322 Sq.ft and will be enabled with amenities like solar-powered heating system, sewage treatment plant, solid waste management, compound wall and a rainwater harvesting system. A separate agency is planned to set up for handling issues like allotment of aviation no objection certificate (NOC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board’s consents, groundwater survey and environmental clearance for the building of 60,000 affordable homes.
