The Nashik Municipal Corporation plans to increase revenue collection to carry out developmental work. Radhakrishna Game, the Municipal Commissioner said that civic body is going to take strict action against property defaulters along with those who don’t pay water tax on time.
Commissioner also clearly said that the additional works of Rs. 350 crore suggested by the general body in the budget can only be carried out if the Nashik Municipal Corporation enhances various taxes under the town Planning, property and water tax departments.
The Municipal Commissioner in February tabled a budget of Rs. 1,894.50 crore for the present financial year 2019-20. The corpus recorded an increase of Rs. 89.50 crore and this took total a budget to Rs. 1,984 crore by standing committee of the civic body.
After this, the general body of the Nashik Municipal Corporation made provisions for additional works of Rs. 352.38 crore which escalated budget to Rs. 2,335.87 crore.
Game, Municipal Commissioner said that the budget in the month of February was tabled after considering the recommendations given by the corporators. The civic body generates revenue from the town planning, property and water taxes as the income is fixed via GST.
He further said that increase in revenue is the need of the hour and thus stringent action will be taken against the property tax defaulters as the development work can only be carried out if the civic body has higher revenue generation.
Municipal Commissioner then said that the Nashik civic body is keeping an eye on the tax defaulters and directives are issued to the concerned departments. He further said that the civic body will bring approximately 59,000 new properties under the property and water tax nets.
Game, then said that the multiple development works in the city have been kickstarted as the model code of conduct can be implied in coming months due to the state assembly elections that are approaching this year.
The Civic body commissioner also said that tenders for some development works will be floated soon and we are focusing on the issue of drinking water, drainage and road works.
