The Ludhiana Civic Body aims to generate the property tax revenue of Rs.100 crore in this financial year.
The Mayor of Municipal Corporation said that the financial condition of the civic body is improved now after failing to generate the branch-wise targeted revenue for the development of the city. The mayor also said that more changes are also on the cards.
For the civic body, the tax collection amount generates huge revenue and thus the authority aims to collect more property tax. However, the officials are unable to recover the target set at the commencement of the year.
The Ludhiana civic body aimed to recover Rs.100 crore as property tax, but the body has recovered nearly Rs. 63 crore. However, the officials claim to recover approximately Rs. 90 crore.
But this year, the Ludhiana civic body has targeted to recover Rs. 75 crore from property tax and the remaining 15 crore will be generated by selling off the civic properties.
One of the officials at the municipal corporation said that people don’t pay tax on time and this reflect in lesser collection of property tax. The official also said that they have to perform multiple duties to achieve their targets.
The official said that we will carry out tax recovery drive since the beginning of the year in order to reduce the chance of backlogs. The official also appealed to the residents to pay tax on time as it will help the municipal corporation to start various development works in the city.
The civic body cannot carried out development work in the city such and thus people have to suffer because of issues like potholed roads, poor sewerage system, impure water supply and more.
