The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation sanctioned a proposal to penalize the property owners for submitting late payment of property tax. GDA – [Ghaziabad Development Authority] decided to impose 12% on the late payment of house tax. This proposal got sanctioned at the civic body’s board meeting and the implication of the same will come into immediate effect.
The authority will continue offering rebates on those making timely payment of the house tax as per the rule. According to the officials at the Ghaziabad Development Authority, the penalty on house tax is formulated as per rules framed by the State Government.
Pramod Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner said that under the UP Nagar Nigam Adhiniyam of 1959, that regulates the functioning of the municipal corporation, contains provisions to implicate penalties for late payment of house tax. The corporation has been facing huge revenue losses because several property owners have been sitting on house tax dues for years altogether. Penalties will act as a deterrent to delays in clearance of house tax. The revenue thus collected can be pumped into various infrastructure works in the city.
GDA collects house tax from all areas in the city and also collect property tax from Indirapuram which is currently under the maintenance of Ghaziabad Development Authority. The authority provides a rebate of 20% to current house tax paid within August of each financial year.
The rebate decreases by 5% each following month. The property owners paying current taxes after November will not be eligible for any kind of rebate. According to officials, a 12% penalty will be calculated on all pending house taxes till date including the late payment prior to the current financial year.
Apart from this, the Ghaziabad Development Authority sanctioned nearly 60 proposals in the recently held meeting which pertained to the construction of small stretches of roads and drains within certain wards.
