The Dehradun Civic body has announced a rebate of 20% on property tax. The municipal corporation has initiated this move to encourage the residents for paying the property tax in a time-bound manner.
The rebate can be availed till February-end i.e. 28th February and the Dehradun Municipal Corporation will organize camps in seven wards to commence the tax collection process.
Sunil Uniyal Gama, mayor of Dehradun city informed that adequate officials are deputed for the smooth facilitation of the tax collection procedure.
The Mayor further said that the civic body has announced a 20% rebate on property tax for those who will pay tax for residential and commercial properties. This rebate will be shown in the receipt of the property tax payment that will be generated online.
The Dehradun civic body is estimating a tax collection of Rs. 25 crores from 80,000 property taxpayers in the city. On the first day of tax collection drive, the civic body has collected Rs. 2.30 lakh as the tax amount.
The residents of the city are also offering a positive response to the move and one of the property taxpayers said that the camps set up by the civic body have made the process of tax payment easy as a lot of time have been saved.
On December, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation had announced a hike of 20% in property tax in most categories.
At present, the property tax is being collected from the existing 60 wards and the decision to levy a tax on 40 newly inducted wards has been put on hold for some time.
However, the ashrams have to pay property tax on the basis of commercial slab as many of them have let out their premises to banks and shops for commercial purpose.
