CIDCO, the authority for Town Planning in Navi Mumbai has decided to build 2.10 lakh dwelling units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna i.e. PMAY.
CIDCO i.e. City and Industrial Development Corporation also gave the nod to contracts for the construction of approximately 95,000 residential units and also announced the lottery for 9,249 units.
In a statement released by the authority said, we have now decided to create an additional 1.10 lakh homes under the PMAY scheme. These along with the already under construction houses will take the total to 2.1 lakh homes.
Out of 1.10 lakh homes, 62,976 units will be constructed for the economically weaker section and 47,040 dwelling units are planned for the homebuyers falling under the LIG category. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Government aims to offer housing for all by March-end 2022 and thus aims to develop 20 million affordable homes.
CIDCO plans to develop the projects in villages like Pawane, Turbhe, Bonsari, Kukshet and Sirvane in Navi Mumbai.
The City and Industrial Development Corporation said, Considering the potential rise in demand for housing on the back of the upcoming international airport and various other projects here, we have undertaken this massive housing development project.
In August, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) had proposed the development of over one lakh affordable homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.
Lokesh Chandra, Managing Director, CIDCO said, Keeping in mind the increasing demand of affordable homes in the city, the authority has planned to construct 1.09 lakh affordable homes. Moreover, there are huge land parcels available in Sanpada, making it an ideal location for the construction of affordable housing units.
