The Narendra Modi-led Union Government sanctioned the Surat metro project recently. This project in Gujarat State will be completed in five years and in the first phase, two metro corridors will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 12,000 crore.
The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation [GMRC] will carry out this project and both the Union as well as the State Government will offer financial assistance for the same.
It is planned that the first metro corridor will run from Sarthana to the Dream City and this 21.61 km long stretch will have 20 metro stations. This metro route will offer smooth connectivity to various industrial localities of the city and the 6.4 km stretch will be underground.
The metro will start running from Sarthana Nature Park, Kapodea, Labheshwar Chowk Area, Central Warehouse, Surat Railway Station, Maskati Hospital, Gandhi Baug, Majura Gate and Dream City and Khajod.
In the second corridor, the 18.74 km long stretch will offer connectivity between Bhesan and Saroli. This route will have a total of 18 metro stations and will connect to the emerging residential areas of the Surat city.
The metro will commence its journey from Bhesan to Ugat Vaarigrah, Palanpur Road, L P Savani School, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Majura Gate, Kamela Darwaza and will end at Saroli.
The Majura Gate will be the station to interchange between the two corridors.
The introduction of metro project will boost the real estate market of the Surat city as the route will connect to industrial, commercial and residential areas. Also, the metro route will offer connectivity to emerging residential areas and this will be the reason for a boom in the property market of the Surat city.
